Mack -

Off the top of my head, there are several small dark caddis possibilities for your neck o' the woods (as there is almost everywhere else). As to whether this is the same critter you are seeing, I can't offer an opinion one way or the other. Besides not having photos of your beast to compare, I don't even know what the caddis in the photos is, other than it is indeed a small dark one. Creno suggested the possibility that it may be a glossosomatid. Based on his comments, it shouldn't have been left where it was. There's no other commentary in the attached thread or on the specimen page after his, so I don't have an explanation for why it was left there - other than being overlooked after the first post suggesting Rhyacophilidae. The gap was more than a year between posts, so it's certainly understandable. I've moved the photos up to Order.

When they heat up some more in concentration I will nab some for photo. The ones am look at have smoky wings dark body and is about a size #18 if that means anything at this point.

THX Kurt.

Yeah, I'm afraid "small dark caddis" is the equivelent of "blue winged olive" in the caddis world. There are many families (let alone genera and species) with examples that can be loosely described that way.
