The Specimen

Ephemerella subvaria (Hendrickson) Mayfly NymphEphemerella subvaria (Hendrickson) Mayfly Nymph View 7 PicturesThis is another unusual brown Ephemerella nymph. The "fan-tail" which defines the Ephemerella genus is particularly evident on this specimen.
Collected February 7, 2004 from unknown in Wisconsin

I have no idea for sure but I do not see this one being subvaria it looks more like some of the
invaria rotunda I have recently loaded, but I wouldn't say it is that species.

I am trying to learn my Ephemerella.

This is an excellent example of how tubercles can be hard to make out in dorsals but stick out like sore thumbs in lateral photos. This is probably subvaria, IMO.
