Posts: 3I did some stonefly collecting yesterday in the Adirondacks and found this one. It's quite small, a size 14-16 hook, and I was wondering what was the species of this stonefly. The antennas and tails are pretty long though. Thank you to anyone who may know the answer!

Hi Simon-

I believe this stonefly nymph to be of family Nemouridae (The Forestflies). If I were to take a guess as to genus and species, it would be Prostoia similis, which has a common name of Longhorn Forestfly, and is one of the (10) Nemourids known to reside in New York.

Please see link to Troutnut website Prostoia nymphal photos.

Posts: 3Do you believe it could be in the Taeniopterygidae family?

I cannot rule out the Taeniopterygidae family; spent considerably time vacillating between those two families before deciding to just give you my best guess.
