This is a little anecdote that was recently published on another forum and I thought some of you might enjoy reading it and seeing the pictures.

Great story, Matt. Well-written and very interesting.

Wow Matt, life has been good. Not to detract from the fishing but as a "60's" muscle car enthusiast that must have been quite a change in life going from the GTO to the VW. Anyway great story.

When asked what I just caught that monster on I showed him. He put on his magnifiers and said, "I can't believe they can see that."

Matt.

Sorry I somehow missed this post of yours. You have shared some stories in the past with us about the early days of the storied Paradise Valley spring creeks. I think I remember a VW bus and bell bottoms. 😆

It’s great that you got the chance to fish them back then. I have a friend that was hanging out there about the same time as you.

I didn’t get to visit them until 1995 when I fished Armstrong’s and DePuys. I didn’t make it to Nelson’s until 2004.

If only every stream were as prolific in terms of bugs as these streams are. Having visited them it’s easy to see how guys like Swisher and Richards used them as laboratories for their books, especially “Emergers”.

The midge fishing out west and especially on these creeks is phenomenal. You can just sit there watching the whole process taking place. Millions of emerging midges.

My first visit was DePuys. By the end of the day I was there alone. I sat by the stream looking at the Absorokas and beat myself up for never getting my grandfather out there to see the west.

Thanks for sharing! Nice memories from you, and for me. 😉
