To tell a little bit about myself, my name is Trent, I live in Oklahoma, and I've just gotten into the sport of fly fishing. I kind of feel that I'm starting late at the age of 23. I've fished with conventional tackle all my life so this is definitely new to me, but seems to be a more challenging type of fishing overall. I've learned a lot already, just by reading the posts on here.

Good fishing, y'all.

Hi Trent,

Welcome to Troutnut. My father got me started fishing with conventional tackle at about the age of seven, and I continued with that method of fishing into my thirties. But then, a fellow worker introduced me to fly fishing, which I've now practiced exclusively for over thirty years. So, at least from my perspective, you're getting a rather early start.

Best regards,

Welcome to the forum!
I got started fishing for blue gill with a cane pole and a bobber back in the south then switched to conventional gear for large mouth bass. When I went to college in New England I got into fly fishing and man did I feel out of place!
That was a number of years and I'm constantly surprised with how much I have to learn.
Just have fun and enjoy the process!

Welcome, Trent!

I think more than a few fly-fishers got into our sport via other types of fishing, myself included. Spinning and bait-casting for Bass and N Pike until '87 when I got my first fly-rod (I was 33 at the time so you've got a 10-year head-start on me, sort of!?)...and the rest is history.

Soak up all of the information you can, fish as often as possible, and remember it's all fun!
