I don't know how I missed hearing about a Dave Barry article on fly fishing back when he wrote it in 2004. I used to read his hilarious column weekly. Anyway, this gem was new to me:

That was truly classic. Thanks for sharing.

I'd whisper a hint that since 2004, that ticket has went unpaid! Good stuff!

Actually, Jason, you didn't miss it, but you did miss not missing it. You already posted this article a few years ago: http://www.troutnut.com/topic/321

But it's still funny the second time. If you wait long enough before rereading a Barry column, he blindsides you again - good stuff.

Wow! I can't believe how thoroughly I had forgotten about it. It seemed completely unfamiliar to me.

You're right, though... his old articles become very fresh and funny again after a few years.

I missed that column when it first came out, but I saw it last week on another board (can't remember which - paflyfish maybe?).

When we were in college Shawn and I went and saw/heard Dave Barry speak - not sure if you would call it a lecture, or stand-up, or what...but it sure was entertaining.

Ah, you went to Cornell too?

I also saw him do his lecture/stand-up there, too, but several years later. It was still really good.

I did; I was a year (or 2...I can't remember?) ahead of Shawn.

As you probably know, Shawn and I grew up in Ithaca. The local paper there ran Dave Barry's Miami Herald column every Wednesday, and Shawn and I became big fans of Dave's work; when he happened to come to Cornell at a time when we were both there, it was a no-brainer.
