I live in Montana and right now we have decent hatch of what i call them yellow butt midges. Adult has folded back whitish , clear wings with front abdomen towards the head black and black legs and rear abdomen bright yellow. They hatch in slow water. Would love to know if anyone here would now the name of this midge. I would say its size 20-22
Thank you very much for your help,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl-

Based in what can be seen of the wing venation, I believe the adult images to be of Family Chironomidae, Subfamily Chironominae, and Tribe Chironomini.

However, if you desire an expert opinion, which mine as certainly not, I would recommend that you contact Ethan Bright at University Of Michigan, whose email address I can PM to you upon your request.
Best regards,
Roger Rohrbeck
