Oscoda, MI Posts: 2610 | What started its existence as a gravel pit back in the 60s has evolved into my longest-fished body of water, 47 years worth. I know this place, & it has been slow due to wacky weather, but working it always produces something. Plus...a 3-mile drive from the old house, a city park with (mostly) plenty if backcasting room*, & a good population of centrarchids, that is bass, sunfish & crappie. I have seen rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, & yellow perch come & go from this lake over the years, never got any trout or smallies because that was mostly before my fly fishing years began. These days, the sunfish are bigger than ever, easily doubling over the 9 ft 5-wt that has become my favorite lake rod! Call it comfort fishing...easy, close by, reliable, pretty place with mature trees & a variety of bird life, terrestrial & waterborne...no worms or bobbers though, Woolly Buggers, KBFs, hoppers, dries are my "worms" now! *I have still managed to decorate the trees there with many flies...sacrifices to the Fish Gods (or Spirit of the Lake?)... No matter how big the one you just caught is, there's always a bigger one out there somewhere... | ||
