Hey everyone, new here! I have a featherweight for my 1710 TXL, now I’m looking for a reel for my 4710 TXL. I have the option of putting the featherweight on the 4wt and purchasing a Marquis 2/3for the 1wt or just keep the featherweight on the 1wt and buy a Marquis#5 for the 4wt. What’s your thoughts what would match the best. Both of these rods will have sage double quiet tapers.

It’s a Sage 7’10” 1wt. And a 7’10” 4wt

Well if you want to go with classic style I would use a Hardy Lightweight series "Flyweight" for the #1 rod and either the Hardy Lightweight "Featherweight" or "LRH" for the #4 weight rod.

I have a 1st generation Sage LL series 9' #4 and always use a Hardy LRH that I bought new in 1965. It is the two screw line guard model.

I used to own a Sage 8' 9" #3 and I used the Featherweight on that rod.

Thanks Wbranch! I decided to keep the feather on the 1wt and went with the Hardy Marquis #5 for the 4wt. I do like the lightweight looks over the Marquis, very classy!

At one time I owned a Flyweight, a Featherweight, two LRH's, and two Princesses. Classic reels that pair well with a good cane rod or a lighter graphite rod. Nothing sounds sweeter than a strong fish running the drag on a Lightweight series reel.

Oh nice, I have everything but the flyweight. Yes you are correct, the Hardy music is a beautiful sound.

I have a Redington Butterstick 5'9" 1 wt that I just recently paired with an Orvis Battenkill 1. It's a click drag which I really prefer for my #1-#3 rods.
