Posts: 1	I have never trout fished, but as I have moved to area (Southern Appalachia) that has plentiful trout I want to get started. This area has people who fly fish sand use a regular rod and reel. Can I get help for both types of trout fishing on this forum or only for fly fishing? Someonr local suggested the following for basic gear to start. Any suggestions? Eagle Claw Featherlight Spinning Rod, 2 Piece (Ultra Light Yellow, 6-Feet), Model: FL204-6, Sport & Outdoor Lew's Laser Lite Speed Spin Spinning Reel 120/6- 22.5” or 160/6- 23” P-Line Floroclear line. 4 to 6 pound test Does 4, 5 or 6 lb. matter? Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.

bancroft michigan Posts: 420	Shark ark, this site is primarily focused on fly fishing with fly fishing gear, and the real emphasis is on bugs and there identification. In spin fishing the lure is delivered by its weight, artificial flies weigh almost nothing and are delivered by the weight of the fly line. That’s the simple explanation, you can use flies on spin gear using a clear bobber or some other means of weight. Better to use small spinners and lures with spin gear. Best idea would be to find a fly shop in your area ask questions, get familiar with rules and laws. There’s a lot of info out there on the internet, also find a local trout unlimited chapter, they art very helpful. Enjoy the journey. Mike.
