This beautiful 20 inch brown trout took a dry fly placed very tight against some overhanging alders. I was proud of that cast even before the trout smashed my fly. This brown is so vibrantly colored that as I caught glimpses during the fight I began to wonder if it was not a brown, but a monster brook trout. It turned out to be a very bright red/gold brown trout. The picture, fine as it is, doesn't do the trout justice. From the Namekagon River in Wisconsin.

A small brown trout jumps at the end of my line. Photo by Sandy Neuswanger. Yes, the most popular photo on this website was taken by my mom when I handed off the camera to play this fish! From the Bois Brule River in Wisconsin.

This is my largest brook trout ever (as of June '06), 13 3/4". It was sporadically surface feeding at dusk and took a nice spinner pattern on the first pass. From the Bois Brule River in Wisconsin.
