April 30, 2010 - 10 AM--Mark and I decided it was time to get to the water.  The day was beautiful, and the we found the river filled with fisherman. We got into one of our favorite spots, and found the water moving well and at a good depth.  We saw little fly activity, except for occasional stoneflies.

The fish were very sluggish. Mark hooked one, but lost him shortly after hooking up.  We continued to work the run hard, with little results. I knew we needed to get deeper, and I’d suggested to Mark to with to a weighted nymph. This is when he hooked the first fish. I went to a favorite creation of mine for early season - The Fuzz Puppy.

I continued working the run, and Marks efforts were paid off by a fine little rainbow of about 11”. Working my fly as a darting minnow, I was finally rewarded with a nice brown of about 14”  No other trout were taken by us.  I knew, however, as the day went on, the water would warm and activity would increase.  Son-in-law, Bill reported seeing fish rising later in the day.  Unfortunately, we had other commitments.
