Extended body stuff

Posts: 472	Sitting at my tying bench today, freezing rain, sleet, and snow outside and streams under a flood advisory again. I'm experimenting with the silicone on a needle technique for extended bodies on whatever fly and getting some good results. The only caveat would be to use a lighter shade of dubbing wound onto the silicone-coated needle since it darkens considerably, noticeably so with natural (my go-to bunny hair blends) vs. synthetics. Otherwise I think its a neat way to whip up some longer-bodied flies such as Hexes and the big Drakes- fast, nice results, and kind of fun. After a couple practice cripples only minutes to do a usable body. I'll try to progress to smaller needles and bodies soon, I can tie only so many Hexes before I want to scale down to the Iso's and Hendricksons. I'm also thinking of slipping some clips of 20 or 30-pound test mono into the vise and wrapping it with silicone and dubbing with no need to pull the line out, a hybrid method but curiosity beckons.
