Work like adviser of sports fishing in the secretary of tourism of my municipality. Can it (he, she) be that they are a species (kind) of midges? When the temperature of the water courts the 6 to 3 centigrade degrees the activity of these insects is major. | |

| Portland, Oregon Posts: 3 | Hi All, (new topic from a rookie blogger brand new to this forum) I have a questions to pose and I would like your honest feedback (and why)... What do you guys think about this whole invasive species/aquatic nuisance issue and the talk of banning felt completely? Have any of you used rubber in lieu of felt (in lots of different fisheries)? Personally I feel banning felt compromises my safety as NO rubber compound has ever performed for me on mossy tail-waters and/or smooth round river rocks... Besides, the mesh in the upper, shoe laces, gravel guards (and waders for that matter) all have the capability to transfer the spores if not COMPLETELY DRY before the next use. I feel that educating anglers at the grass-roots level is key to raising their awareness level on how they can do their part: INSPECT, CLEAN, AND DRY YOUR GEAR!!! I don't believe banning felt is going to stop the spread...what about a duck's butt? Are they going to propose that we kill all the ducks next? ; ) Lett'er rip...I'm curious to know your thoughts on the topic! | |

| Arlington, VA/ Mercersburg, PA Posts: 455 | your topic really deserves its own thread, but here's a reply to start with: yep, my not-felt-bottomed boots slip a little bit more in the stream BUT they don't slip in the mud and snow next to the stream so it's safer getting there AND they are a whole lot easier to clean thoroughly with a salt water or 409 soak. rinse off the dirt/leaves/mud, immerse, scrub if you feel like it, rinse and dry. wader bottoms too! | |
