I have in the pass found fish able hatch's of what I was calling Ephemerella needhami based on the photos in the book Hatch's and the darker wings. I was reading through Gonzo's posting on this sample, and am sorta unclear as to this samples final determination. So this one is in fact a E needhami correct ??? Other wise I can assume that it would have been relocated to another species in the encyclopedia in the past.

So is the one in the books hatch's the same as this one but different as a geographical variant because of the very dark wings. Or is it another species or subspecies entirely.

No, the photo specimen in Hatches was misidentified.

Heres what Gonzo wrote at the time, Mack.

I'm convinced that the latter description is based on a misidentification because C&N's color photo, captioned "Ephemerella needhami, male dun," appears to be a Eurylophella dun. (It has the telltale long 9th abdominal segment.)

I agree with his assessment.

Cool thanks Kurt I will have to look real close when I catch some to see which one they are as far as being Eurylophella. Funny how all these years I thought they were needhami.

I bet I wasn't the only one :-)

That 9th is really long, once you see it you cant miss it.

Thanks again Kurt
