Sweltsa onkos (Sallfly) Stonefly AdultSweltsa onkos (Sallfly) Stonefly Adult View 8 PicturesI'm just guessing this is Chloroperlidae, since it's little and yellow. If anyone has a less haphazard identification, feel free to post it.

This about all stonefly adults in general. I only picked this specie cause I am tying some for dry fly use right now. What is the typical or preferred water type where stoneflies lay their eggs. I have seen some of them drop to lay eggs at the head of a pool, and others at the tail area near the bank. Do they more or less return to runs, and riffles or quite pockets behind boulders ???

Mack-

Not sure one can safely generalize about stonefly oviposition behavior. Here is what Pat McCafferty had to say on the subject:

Most (stonefly) females carry eggs as an exposed mass on their abdomen prior to ovipositing them somewhere in the environment. they nay oviposit by running on the water or flying over the water and dropping the tip of the abdomen onto the surface; by dropping eggs into the water from the air; by depositing them along the bank; or by crawling into the water and depositing them in the underwater substrate.
