Hard to read but is this modestum ??? The projections are hard to read but they are very small and likely they stop at or not far up from the 7th. I was stopping bye. I tied my first fly of the year a minute ago.....any guesses on genus :-)

Mack.

Well, it certainly looks different from the other Hatch Page specimens (allegedly of modestum) you've posted to today. My hunch is you are right, but I can't see enough to justify moving it to the species level. If anything, the others should be moved back to genus. BTW - the key lateral projection to look for is on the 5th, not the 7th. The reason why the keys in B & M '78 are so cryptic on this (leaving specimens with processes starting on the 6th in limbo) is because a few forms do have them. That's why the couplets in older keys dividing those with processes anterior of 7 from those without no longer work in some cases. Particularly with the possibility of ithaca in play in this multi topic discussion.

Hey Kurt

It would hurt if he had a dam bath :-). Yeah genus is best.

:)

Oh! I almost forgot... The fly you tied? I'll take it to species. A March Brown, of course...:)
