I have rod I use a lot on one of my small streams. I am on the train to it now btw. A friend of mine built it some five years ago. It's a Rainshadow 7', and I like best with a 3wt- line. It has a deep blueish color. Quite stiff in the butt section. Any suggestions on what model it could be and where I might find it?

Chances are it's not in production anymore but probably an updated version of that blank. I checked Janns Netcraft and the smallest rainshadow they have is a 7'6" blank. I don't believe they make assembled rods, only blanks.

Thanks Strmanglr, a blank is what I'm looking for. It's probably no longer available, I'll try one of their newer 6,6' instead.

Three blanks arrived yesterday.
And yes, of course I need three 2-weights..

Rainshadow is made/distributed by Batson Enterprises. They list a huge selection. They are also very responsive to inquiries.

And I really like the fact that there's no prints on the blanks, no names or specs. This leaves more room for your own creativity.

Yes, I agree. I made a Batson 7-1/2 XF 4wt a couple years ago. I wanted to make it a small stream stealth rod -all flat black - but my aesthetic side had to have its say and it ended up with golden-olive wraps. There are pics on here somewhere.

Posts: 5The rod identification can be made simply from their size and metal used in it. As the different types of rod, there is different material.
