This morning some jerk in Beijing, China attacked the forum with a script that posted thousands of spam messages under about five different usernames. I fixed it all in about five minutes by manually editing the database, and banned their IPs, but they could find a way back and do it again. If you see that again, please just send me a private message (like Jonathan did this time -- thanks!) and I'll get right on fixing it.

Maybe we should send Jason to China to visit with Hu Jintao.

When asked what I just caught that monster on I showed him. He put on his magnifiers and said, "I can't believe they can see that."

Wow, that was wild. The weird thing is that there were no marketing links that I could see. Testing capabilities for cyber war?

More likely, they were applying a script that doesn't understand how to post links so they show up on this site. I doubt there's even a real person overseeing the attack on this site specifically, just someone who turned a script loose to randomly crawl around the web. They probably didn't check to see whether their links worked here or not.

We just got hit with another round and I deleted it. The spammer was only using two IP blocks and I just put in a ban on those (in addition to the specific IP addresses used earlier) so hopefully that'll put an end to it.

It looks like there is at least one real person in Beijing continuing to spam the site. I'm working on it, and appreciate the messages from people letting me know when he strikes.

Allan,

Is that Mandarin for "Spammers, Bugger off!"?
