| Mercer Island, WA Posts: 483 | Troutabout- If it's from N. California, you can probably forget Platycentropus. It's likely either Limnephilus or the other (probably Limnephilini tribe) Limnephilid genus, which LaFontaine said build similar cases. And no, I don't know which genus he meant. Perhaps someone else will. That's what I just love about this forum. | |

| Posts: 141 | Based on the case (and what I usually see--I live in Northern CA too), I'd say Limnephilus. However, cases shouldn't be used alone for definitive ID. A picture of the head (and any other body details) would be helpful. Also, what habitat was it in--pond? | |

| Posts: 141 | I've driven by that lake on the way to fish Manzanita Lake in Lassen Park. It is pretty weedy, so the leaves in the case could be a lot of things. The location makes me 90% sure it's Limnephilus, though. I also double checked my reference collection, and I have some very similar caddis that are Limnephilus (also from the area). | |
