It's the time of the year when big browns and rainbows travel upstream to spawn! You can have great fun by traveling to a local small, clear stream with native trout and catch many small to lunker sized fish.

Gear: Orvis Super Strong 6X tippet, 4 to 6 weight line, 7 to 8 foot rods, good disk drag reel
Flies: Glo-Bugs of Many colors, 12-16, Sucker spawn and Crystal Meth Egg Sacks 12-14, Bead-head nymphs 14-16, other flies of your choice
Fishing Techniques: Find a good run or pool in your small stream, wear green, brown or even camo clothing, stay back a little, crouch, don't move much and try to keep fly-line off the water. These fish spook very easily, so be careful!

Many people wouldn't think of this on the time of the year, but just remember, theres always the chance of catching that lunker!

Don't those browns and brookies need a respite from the last six months of angling pressure? Why don't you give them a break and let them at least have time to propogate the future fish to populate or streams and rivers.

BTW most rainbow trout spawn in the Spring and not the Fall. Perhaps if you are seeing rainbows in the feeders they are followng the browns and brookies to eat their eggs.

When asked what I just caught that monster on I showed him. He put on his magnifiers and said, "I can't believe they can see that."
