Grayling.

Nice pics. Thanks.
Louis

Is it not an art to deceive a trout with an artificial fly? A trout! that is more sharp-sighted than any hawk . . . and more watchful and timorous than your high-mettled merlin is bold!

Grayling.

That would have been my uneducated guess, but I've never seen one before and I thought these might be some European fish I'd also never seen before. Thanks, Louis.

Nice. The stretch of water in the third pic look very inviting!

Thanks for the reply guys!
Slovenia is one of my favorite places to go fishing for grayling and trout. I know many flyfishers there and this year i`m invited to fish the opening of the "huchen" season. The huchen is in fact the donausalmon, a salmonite of the danube or donauriver.
I would really love to come over one day and fish in Montana but it`s quite difficult... prices are quite high for us in the states!
You can als see some of the Belgium rivers on my website, just to give you an idea about my country and the nature there...

If ever one of you is coming over here to Europe, you`re always welcome and.. warn me about it and i``l invite you.. we`ll fish together!!
Kind regards from,
Luc

Hi Luc,

Great pictures! I've always wanted to fish Slovenia, because the pictures I've seen are so amazing and because I'm half Slovenian. I won't be there anytime soon but it'd be my top choice in Europe.

Hi Jason,
If you ever have the possibility to come over, just give me a buzz in advance and i`ll come with you and guide you trough Sava and Savinja!
I have a lot of connections there... i`ve been fishing there a lot!!
It`s only about 600 miles from Belgium.
Lodging at crazy prices... last holliday i stayed at the farmlodge at 50$/day full board!! fishinglicence around 120$/3days.
Kind regards from
Luc

Awesome pics! thanks. Hey Luc maybe you can answer this-- I spent some time in Bosnia and fished the Neretva river a few times. Some of the locals described to me a large predatory game fish, very aggressive. I could never figure out what kind of fish it was. Do you (or anyone) care to venture a guess?

Yeah sure,
that's the "huchen alias donausalmon" this is family of the taimen you will find in Mongolia!! They are frequent in those rivers, also in Slovenia there are a lot of them in Sava, Savinja, Idrisjka, Baca.... But don't forget that there are also very big Marmorata trout there!!
The season opens now from 15 november untill end february. I'm invited by my slovenian friends to fish them on the Sava and Savinja river this year! Pictures of those fish you can find on my website under "foreighn rivers"
Kind regards from,
Luc

This thread made me curious and I googled Mamorata Trout. They sound very interesting. Here's a list that I ran into while googling. There are a lot of trout out there I've never heard of. So many fish, such little time:

A member of the salmon family (salmonidae), there are about 18 different families of trout. They are divided into three genus:

Genus Salvelinus (Char)
Lake Trout

Silver Trout (Extinct)

Brook Trout

Bull Trout

Aurora Trout

Dolly Varden Trout

Genus Salmo
Brown Trout

Flathead Trout

Marmorata Trout

Sevan Trout

Ohrid Trout

Adriatic Trout

Genus Oncorhynchus
Apache Trout

Rainbow Trout

Golden Trout

Gila Trout

Cutthroat Trout

Biwa (or Masou) Trout

The access to Slovenia is (for us) very good! We only need id card to enter. Roads are very good, nearly new. People are very kind and helpfull and prices are very low there! Most of the rivers are cristal clear and contain a good population of trout and grayling!
Kind regards from
Luc
