Green midge larvae?

Posts: 1	Hey! Just wondering, did anyone ever observe green or olive midge larvae in lakes or streams? Do they exist? And I don't mean micro-sized caddis larvae. Thank you!

Oscoda, MI Posts: 2611	Yes, I have collected many green midge larvae, though I have not taken them below family (client wouldn't pay for the head-smashing slide-mounting part)...but yeah, like grass-green. Once collected dragonfly nymphs that were grass-green too! Midge larvae seem to come in many different colors & color patterns, including bright red in "bloodworms". I have seen striped ones & diamond-like patterns. Jonathon
	No matter how big the one you just caught is, there's always a bigger one out there somewhere...

Wisconsin Posts: 663	You could be thinking of Hydropsychidae caddis larvae (net-spinning caddis) that often get caught in the drift.
