Hit the Pere Marquette this morning early for steelhead! Not many in yet, saw a few fresh redds but no fish porpoising...however, nice browns were eating eggs! I got my 1st fish of the year in less than 5 minutes of fly casting! That was it for me though, and Shane got 2 browns also, plus hooked & lost 2 steelies...Todd came up bust...but hey, we got out & did it, & the day perhaps got too nice & sunny but it sure felt GOOD to throw some fly line, and get my rod bent good!

HAPPY STEELHEAD SEASON! I have to go hit the Clinton now! Tight lines to all!

Way to go Jonathon, good to see some fish pictures here. I went up today also, the water was very low and clear. Got 1 brown and lost 2. Just good to be out! Watch out for the browns in the Clinton😂.
Take care, Mike.

Funny thing, Mike...some years ago I was steelhead fishing @ Yates Cider Mill, a beautiful sunny December afternoon, less than a week before Christmas...and caught a 13" BROWN! They're in there...@ least until it gets too warm & they have to go back up unto Paint Creek! You never know until you go...

But MAN IT FELT GOOD to wet a fly line...& hook something on it & a nice one even!

Would you guys believe I hooked & promptly lost...wait for it...a KOI yesterday on my 1st trip to my hometown lake...saw a bunch of big orange blobs, cast near them & SOMETHING ripped a Woolly Bugger (#10, chartreuse with red eyes) right off my leader! No further hits from anything...

Okay time to come up with a dry fly pellet pattern. Or some carp patterns, it’s all good. But I hate carp, this comes from my youth and fishing Thread lake in Flint as a young punk. Think late 60,s early 70,s. And I hated carp back then.

Congrats Jonathon! Was up in November and hooked up with an unhappy 28’ fresh Steelie on the Manistee.

I can’t remember how to start a post where I can add pics, or I’d post it.

Hope all is well.

SPENCE!!! Good to hear from you, where ya been? Yep, a couple of buddies talked me into it & I even caught something! Wish the nice weather we had that day would come back...sick of this cold windy stuff!

Tight lines when ya finally get out there!
