Biography & ThoughtsThe best fly fisherman in the world is the one having the most fun, not the one catching the most fish. If you catch so many fish in a day that you can’t remember the first one, it’s time to put down the rod and enjoy the scenery. You’re too focused on numbers to appreciate the present moment or the environment you’re in. In doing so, I think you disrespect the sport. Which is why I don’t believe we should be having any kind of fishing competitions. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had 15 and 20 fish days. That said, the fish I remember the most are the memorable fights and the ones that got away. I’ve learned a lot from both. After the colorful expletives, you should remember to have fun out there...even when you miss a hookset.
Forum SignatureNever cast over fish to catch fish.
