A storm recedes over the boggy headwaters of a nice trout stream. I haven't seen any trout in this stretch, but it's a good place to collect burrowing mayfly nymphs. From the Marengo River in Wisconsin.

A whitetail fawn struggles through strong current to return to its mother. It lost its footing a couple times, and I thought for a moment it was going to wash down to me. From the Namekagon River in Wisconsin.

This pretty little mountain valley pond held several browns and brookies, not huge but outsized for their small stream, and the water was so clear I could sight-fish for them across half the pond. There was also a school of bullheads swimming laps. From the East Branch of Trout Brook in New York.

Here's a pretty sunset over a warmwater lake in the northwoods. It may not be trout water, but I couldn't leave it off the site. From Grindstone Lake in Wisconsin.

My friend Ian throws a fine cast in a section of river that's open year-round. From the bridge, we spotted a very nice brown nymphing, but neither of us could get it to take. From Willowemoc Creek in New York.
