The appeal of trout fishing is tied to the landscapes in which they live. They need the kind of clean, cold water found mostly in pristine rivers in pristine places that lend themselves to landscape photography. I've begun to take that hobby seriously too, although the best times of day for pictures conflict with the best times for fishing!

Nice smallmouths and muskies inhabit this wide warmwater river.

A small, old rock wing dam has created an excellent riffle and pool in this classic trout stream.

The sun slooowly sets over a crystal-clear grayling stream.

The far northern tip of Wisconsin juts out into Lake Superior.



A storm recedes over the boggy headwaters of a nice trout stream. I haven't seen any trout in this stretch, but it's a good place to collect burrowing mayfly nymphs.

A family of geese take a drink from Lake Superior. They then swam out effortlessly into the high breaking waves and foiled the retrieving efforts of somebody's ambitious dog.

I believe this is the highest free-falling waterfall in the East. The pool below it is off-limits to fishing but probably isn't that great, anyway -- by all accounts the stream's trout population is mediocre at best.
