For how many years, I wonder, have these huge slabs of rock sheltered wild brook trout?
I took great care to handle the best fish of the night, a 16+ inch rainbow trout, very gently for a picture. As usual, the fish slipped away before the photo. Here's one snapped too early, while I fumbled with the trout in the net. It's really there! Honest!
The best fish of the evening, a 16" rainbow, escaped my net just as I was about to take a picture. Luckily I reacted and snapped this action shot of the fish swimming away.
Thunderstorms threatened on this early July evening but they luckily kept missing me and the fishing was excellent.
This is my biggest and certainly best stream-resident rainbow to date, a wild 19-incher pulled from a Class III-IV rapids. It's also the first fish ever to take me into my backing.
This beautiful brookie comes from a very remote, crystal-clear small stream in the Catskills.
