This is one of my favorite small streams. It's full of fiesty, colorful brookies (though few surpass 11 inches) and a very few browns.

A black bear cub stares down at me from a large pine near one of my favorite trout streams.

My dad finally broke his long, uncanny fishless streak with this nearly 2 inch long common shiner caught on a size 22 Serratella imitation during a Trico spinner fall. Heh heh.

A Canada goose and gosling poke their heads out of the grass along a trout stream.

This is the first grizzly bear I've seen. It's in Denali National Park. People with long-range binoculars, plus the view through a couple spotting scopes the park installed at this stop, verified that the little light spot my arrow is pointing to is, in fact, a grizzly bear. This is the closest view I got.

This 15 inch brown trout is the fattest I've ever seen in my life. It's not full of eggs or anything; it's just in astonishingly good condition. It took a Hexagenia limbata nymph imitation in the evening before the hatch.


Several anglers await a disappointingly sparse morning run of salmon from Lake Ontario.


This stretch of a famous Great Lakes salmon tributary produced a nice king for me in the evening after this picture.
