What was once an excellent trout stream now meanders through a swamp as a shallow, silty beaver pond. The ground is anything but firm, and I was insane to try to navigate it on foot.

A professional photographer (whose name I forgot to get) just happened to be nearby as I finished up my sockeye fishing with this hefty limit of fresh, tasty salmon. He took several pictures with his good camera, which hopefully he'll be sending me soon, and he snapped this one with my point+shoot camera.

I took great care to handle the best fish of the night, a 16+ inch rainbow trout, very gently for a picture. As usual, the fish slipped away before the photo. Here's one snapped too early, while I fumbled with the trout in the net. It's really there! Honest!

The NY DEC has installed these trout habitat improvements on a small upstate stream. I found that most fish in the stream orient to them.
