Here I'm tying on a fly in the middle of a warm summer day. Despite the conditions, the trout responded well.

Here's the official first trout brought to hand with my new small-stream rod, an Orvis Superfine 7' 4-weight. It's an appropriate fish from an appropriate water.

My dad holds up the largest trout he's caught so far on a fly, a 20-inch brown. It flipped out of his hand a moment later, making for a much more amusing picture.

Lena's first trout on the fly -- a heavily colored male brookie of a respectable size for his tiny stream. I left her with the rod and a nymph and walked downstream to man the camera, then I turned around and she was waving this trout around in the air. A pleasant surprise!

There are few sights more promising than a large pool on the Beaverkill full of steady rises to a parade of fallen flying ants. It was a bit of a let-down, however, to learn that most of the rises were from fallfish like this one, and there didn't seem to be a trout in sight.
